Charleston Named # 2 Best City by Travel & Leisure
Once again, Charleston has been named one of the best cities in North America by the readers of Travel & Leisure, one of the travel industry’s most respected publications. The magazine released its 2011 World’s Best reader survey results on NBC’s TODAY Show and with it, news that Charleston was ranked the second best city, coming in slightly behind New York City and just ahead of San Francisco.

Southeastern Wildlife Exposition Descends On Charleston
Each February, downtown Charleston opens its doors to thousands of wildlife experts, artists, visitors and more as the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE) comes to town. The festival welcomes some of the country’s foremost experts in nature and wildlife conservation and preservation, and environmental education.

Kiawah & Charleston Recognized As Best of the Best!
2010 has been a very good year for both Kiawah Island and Charleston as each scored top rankings from some of the travel industry’s leading publications. For the 18th consecutive year in a row, Condé Nast Traveler magazine awarded Charleston with the No. 2 ‘Top Ten’ travel destination, falling slightly behind San Francisco by just .04 of one point!

Charleston and Kiawah Named to Travel + Leisure’s Prestigious List
Travel + Leisure recently named Charleston, SC the No. 3 city in US and Canada, and The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort was ranked the No. 17 resort. For the fifteenth year, readers of Travel + Leisure voted for the top hotels, destinations, airlines, cruises, outfitters, and transportation companies in the world to create the World’s Best ranking. The 2010 poll received a record number of votes.

Modern Masters at the Gibbes Museum of Art
The Gibbes Museum of Art is currently presenting the exclusive exhibition Modern Masters from the Ferguson Collection in the Main Gallery until August 22, 2010. Selected from the private collection of prominent art enthusiasts Esther and James Ferguson, this exhibition includes paintings, sculpture, and works on paper by significant twentieth-century artists such as Pablo Picasso, Willem de Kooning, Robert Rauschenberg, and Christo. The Ferguson’s remarkable collection reflects their personal tastes in art, but also offers an overview of European and American modernism. Cubism, Abstract Expressionism, and Pop Art are among the many movements represented by this exhibition.

Save Our Seas Benefit
Have you been wondering how you can get involved and help with the crisis in the Gulf Coast? Join the South Carolina Aquarium on Saturday, July 17 for a special evening benefiting wildlife rescue in the Gulf and the Charleston area. Aquarium staff members will give first-hand accounts about their recent trips to the Gulf Coast, where they aided in sea turtle rescue and dolphin surveying. Enjoy live performances by Red Top Ramblers, Henry’s Attic and a special appearance from Mark Bryan of Hootie and the Blowfish, and Doug Jones and Gary Greene from Cravin’ Melon. Krewe catering will provide Cajun food, and beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be served.

Spoleto Festival Comes to Charleston
A host of artists, musicians, dancers, and thespians will soon converge on Charleston for the 34th annual Spoleto Festival USA to display their extraordinary talents and treat the city to more than two weeks of inventive performances and visual arts. Described as “A beauty of an event,” by the New York Times and hailed by Pat Conroy as an inspiration for future poets and writers, Spoleto showcases internationally and nationally acclaimed artists in more than 120 performances of jazz, classical music, dance, and opera.

The Cooper River Bridge Run
On March 27 runners and walkers from across the state and beyond will meet in Charleston to participate in the 33rd annual Cooper River Bridge Run. A local tradition that stretches back to 1978, this 10-K (6.2 mile) race draws more than 30,000 participants every year—from elite runners and serious competitors to walkers and first-time racers.
