Fall Festival at Freshfields Village Welcomes Cooler Days
Cooler days and nights have arrived on Charleston’s sea islands, and Freshfields Village thinks that’s worth celebration. Mark the arrival of the season at the Fall Festival, Friday, October 7th through the Sunday, October 9th. Plenty of family fun is scheduled over the weekend, which will wrap up with the American Music Celebration, a series of free, national roots music acts.

Kayaking Kiawah’s Waterways: Cassique Community Dock Opens
Kiawah’s Cassique neighborhood is perfectly placed for any and all water aficionados. Here, the Kiawah River meets the Atlantic Ocean, and saltwater waterways weave their way through the neighborhood. For Cassique residents and Kiawah Island Club members, accessing those waterways just became easier with the opening of the new community dock and boat storage.

Freshfields Village’s free, outdoor movie screenings continue in July with top family movies. Showtime is 8:30 p.m., so bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the show!

Rural Mission: Shelter from the Storms of Life
It’s simply inaccurate to say you walk “into” the home of this woman in her 60s, her two disabled daughters, and six grandchildren. The structure presents a thin veneer between “in” and “out.” When it pours, it rains inside the house, causing mold to grow on the walls. No matter, they’re pulling apart from the buckling floor anyway, giving the anoles and other wildlife more access and egress, as if the fist-sized hole in the back of the cabinet wasn’t enough. The hole comes in handy during hot weather though, because the windows have been painted shut for years. Opening the cabinet provides airflow through the flaws in the walls in summer, a pleasant alternative to the lack of air conditioning.
