34th Annual Kiawah Marathon Breaks Course Records
More than 3,000 runners took to Kiawah’s streets on Saturday, December 10 at the 34th annual Kiawah Island Marathon and Half Marathon. For the first time ever, the Kiawah Island Golf Resort – the race’s host organization – offered $12,500 in prize money for first, second, and third place finishers of the full and half marathons. Winnings were also given to individuals who broke a Kiawah Course Record.
Motivations were strong for prize money; the running conditions ideal with temperatures in the mid-50s, clouds, and very little wind at the starting line that morning. Fast-forward to several hours later and five course records had been broken and celebrations were in high gear.
