All Roads Lead to Kiawah as the PGA Kicks Off the 2012 Season!
PGA tour professionals have a long road ahead of them as the 2012 competitive season officially kicked off earlier this month at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. The journey will lead golfers thousands of miles all over the country for the next eight months as they compete in more than 35 tournaments that will eventually lead them to the 2012 PGA Championship on Kiawah’s Ocean Course this August.
Preparations have been well underway on Kiawah since the announcement that The Ocean Course would play host to the tournament back in 2005. But with only 200 days left until the Championship, tournament staff and Island officials are working in overdrive to ensure that the event goes off without a hitch and that spectators have the best experience possible.
The PGA Championship is unlike any other golf tournament ever to be held on Kiawah. The sheer scope of the tents and structures to be built on The Ocean Course easily exceeds anything from the 1991 Ryder Cup Matches. The sold-out Wanamaker Club tent alone is more than 60,000 square feet of tenting and oceanfront patio space!
This year the PGA Championship will also release a new mobile phone application that will help participants roam the tournament with all the necessary information available right at their fingertips. Whereas previously the PGA didn’t allow cell phone usage during tournaments, now phones will be used to make the event more accessible and convenient for spectators.
Traffic planning and public safety along all roadways to and from The Ocean Course continues to be a priority of the PGA. Planning meetings of state, county, and local officials are held regularly to ensure that increased traffic surrounding the Championship has as small an impact as possible. Official PGA Traffic Plans will be released once all traffic studies and public transportation plans are finalized prior to the Championship.
More updates are on the horizon but until then, visit www.PGA2012.com to learn more about the 2012 PGA Championship on Kiawah.
