Charleston and Kiawah Named to Travel + Leisure’s Prestigious List
Travel + Leisure recently named Charleston, SC the No. 3 city in US and Canada, and The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort was ranked the No. 17 resort. For the fifteenth year, readers of Travel + Leisure voted for the top hotels, destinations, airlines, cruises, outfitters, and transportation companies in the world to create the World’s Best ranking. The 2010 poll received a record number of votes.

In addition to the Best City and Top Resort rankings, three area properties received mention in the accommodations categories.
- Woodlands Resort & Inn take the second spot on the Top 5 Inns in US/Canada (Fewer than 40 rooms) list.
- Planters Inn earns the 6th spot on the Top 10 Small City Hotels in US/Canada (Fewer than 100 rooms) list.
- Charleston Place makes a significant jump to number 12-from the 22nd spot last year-in the ranking of Top 50 Large City Hotels in US/Canada (100 rooms or more).
Charleston moved up one place this year, with only New York and San Francisco ranking higher. “It is an honor for our city to be held in such esteem by the savvy readers of Travel + Leisure,” says Helen Hill, executive director of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “To have four hotels highlighted on the lists is a special thrill and a great reminder of the world class accommodations found throughout the Charleston area.”
