“Golf World” Chooses Kiawah Island

The Kiawah Island Club and the Kiawah Island Golf Resort (KIGR) were recently named to Golf World’s list of Readers' Choice Awards. KIGR was voted #1 Best Golf Resort in the country, and The Club was voted #39 out of the top 50 private clubs in the U.S.

Based solely on reader feedback from an online poll, these awards rate the overall golf experience and hold special significance because they come directly from the readers. The response to the Readers’ Choice poll was tremendous, with double the number of participants from last year. To determine the total rankings, more than 46,000 courses and 600,000 criteria evaluations were collected and tallied by Golf World.

Readers ranked courses in fourteen different categories—clubhouse, condition of course, accessibility, quality of course, off course activities, caddie program, speed of play, reputation, overall value, service, golf practice, hotel accommodations, food/dining, and golf pro shop—using a 10-point scale. The average ratings for each category were then calculated, and the raw scores were weighed to account for the significance level assigned to each variable. For the grand total, the scores were converted to a 100-point scale.
