Kiawah & Charleston Recognized As Best of the Best!

Life on Kiawah | Just For Fun

2010 has been a very good year for both Kiawah Island and Charleston as each scored top rankings from some of the travel industry’s leading publications. For the 18th consecutive year in a row, Condé Nast Traveler magazine awarded Charleston with the No. 2 ‘Top Ten’ travel destination, falling slightly behind San Francisco by just .04 of one point!

Even more exciting was the announcement that Kiawah Island won Condé Nast Traveler’s No. 1 ranking for ‘Top North American Island’. But for those who live or vacation on the Island, this is no surprise at all! Kiawah residents have long been proud of this spectacular getaway just 30 minutes from historic Charleston. With ten miles of pristine beach, endless creek and marsh views, incredible amenities and a slow-paced, relaxed lifestyle, it’s no wonder that Kiawah took the top spot. The Sanctuary, Kiawah’s five-star resort, was also ranked No. 3 for ‘Top Mainland U.S. Large Resorts’.

Travel & Leisure magazine also recently recognized Charleston with a number of accolades, including No. 1 for Friendliest People, No. 1 for Most Attractive People, No. 1 Best Bed & Breakfasts and No. 2 for Historical sites, falling slightly behind Washington, DC. Travel & Leisure Features Editor Nilou Motamed recently sat down with Al Roker at The Today Show where they discussed Charleston as a “triple threat” for other American cities.
