Kiawah Island Leash Laws

Life on Kiawah | Residents

With spring in the air and beach season fast approaching, there are few tasks more rewarding than taking your dog for long walk around the Island. Before you and your four-legged friend head out to the beach, there are a few rules to keep in mind that will help keep your dog and Kiawah wildlife safe.

Message from the Town of Kiawah
All pets within Town limits must be secured by a leash or lead at any time they are permitted outside a house or other enclosed area intended to confine pets. Pets on the beach must be on a leash at all times unless in “Dog Use Areas” located east of the Beach Club & west of Beachwalker Park. Pets are not allowed in sections of the beach designated as “Critical Areas.” Please leash your pets at all times around the Island’s ponds as this is known alligator habitat. Pets and people must remain out of the dunes and away from any turtle nesting areas at all times.

Please call 843-768-9166 with any questions you may have.
