The Kiawah Island Marathon Races Into Town
On Saturday, December 11 thousands of men and women will hit the pavement running as they participate in the 33rd annual Kiawah Island Marathon and Half Marathon. Since its inception in 1977, the Kiawah Island marathon has challenged thousands of athletes from around the world to take part in the longest running race in South Carolina.

More than 3,000 runners are expected to compete in this year’s full marathon (26.2 miles) and half marathon (13.1 miles). Set on a spectacular course that starts at East Beach Village and runs down Governor’s Drive to the Ocean Course, runners will enjoy the sights and views of Kiawah’s maritime forest, marsh, creek and ocean views, and exceptional homes.
While mild temperatures and Island scenery bring most people to the race, competitive runners are drawn to the event because of its status as a Boston Marathon qualifying race. The flat and fast course is ideal for those hoping to make it to Boston’s heartbreak hill.
After the race, runners will be invited to a fantastic Post Race Party featuring a carbohydrate re-load buffet, music and cold beer. Family and friends are also invited to join in the celebration with unlimited beer with the purchase of a $5 wristband. For more information, visit http://www.kiawahresort.com/recreation/marathon.
