Kiawah Named Top Ten Beach
Dr. Beach recently released his America’s Best Beaches list, and ranked Beachwalker County Park at Kiawah Island #8. Described by Dr. Beach as a “nature-lover’s coast,” Beachwalker Park placed just ahead of Hamao Beach in Maui.
Dr. Beach is also known as Stephen Leatherman, director of Florida International University's Laboratory for Coastal Research, and has been featured in Coastal Living magazine and other respected publications. To create his annual America’s Best Beaches list, Dr. Beach ranks beaches based on fifty criteria—beach width at low tide, number of sunny days, shape of the beach, and water color to name a few—using a sliding scale of one to five. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the list.
