PGA Championship Looking For 3,000 Volunteers
In August 2012, an expected 50,000 visitors will descend upon Charleston and Kiawah Island as the 2012 PGA Championship takes on Kiawah’s famous Ocean Course. With 94% of tickets already sold, there is another way to get involved and watch some of the world’s best professional golfers compete for the PGA’s top spot.

According to PGA officials, the tournament will need approximately 3,000 volunteers to help run the Charleston area’s first major golf tournament. These slots are almost as popular as tickets have been, with an estimated 1,700 posts filled to date, but applications are still being taken online. Volunteers will serve on more than 40 committees responsible for contestant transportation, leaderboards, merchandise operations, media center registration, and more.
Volunteers must pay a $217 fee, which covers the cost of a volunteer uniform for the event, but there are most definitely perks to the job, as well. Though asked to work a minimum of 16 hours, volunteers get access to the tournament site for all seven days of the event. They also receive meal vouchers, off-site parking with shuttle service, discounted rates on golf at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
To register as a volunteer or for more information, visit the PGA Championship’s Volunteer website. Committee assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis so make sure to sign up soon to become a part of the 2012 PGA Championship on Kiawah.
