Rebuilding The River Course Clubhouse
Kiawah Partners | Kiawah Island Club
In March 2010, The River Course clubhouse on Kiawah Island was destroyed in a fierce and unforgiving fire. Since then, the Kiawah Partners operations team along with a host of superb architects, engineers and designers have been diligently working on the redesign plan.

The River Course clubhouse was one of The Kiawah Island Club’s original amenities, completed in 1996 and situated to overlook the Tom Fazio-designed golf course, Kiawah River and Bass Pond. A favorite among club members, the clubhouse was a popular setting for socializing with friends, prepping for a golf game or relaxing and taking in the extraordinary views.
Now, celebrated experts in the design field such as Jackye Lanham, interiors architect Stan Dixon, widely-acclaimed chef Tom Colicchio, esteemed restaurant designer Peter Bentel, and Kiawah Partners’ experienced design team have been engaged to produce a familiar, yet renewed and stylish new River Course clubhouse.
The reconstruction plan will maintain the architectural integrity and style of the previous building, but the interiors have been modified and improved to better suit Member needs. With an additional 4,000 square feet, the new clubhouse will allow for larger social gatherings, more comfortable men’s and women’s locker rooms, a mixed grill and pub, and an expanded golf pro shop.
The foundation work is slated to begin in January 2011 and construction will run through June of 2012. We look forward to celebrating many new milestones in the future with the reopening and rejuvenation of one of the Club’s most treasured facilities.
