The Family Circle Cup

Visiting | Things To Do

Each spring, the City of Charleston and Daniel Island serve up one of the most exciting events in women’s professional tennis. Fans turn out in droves to support this ace of a tournament with an average of more than 87,000 people attending each year. More than 50 players will compete for a piece of the $700,000 purse and battle on the court for one of the most coveted trophies in women’s tennis.

The Family Circle Cup, one of 20 premier events on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, has a roster of past champions that includes the biggest names in the history of women's tennis including Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Tracy Austin, Steffi Graf, Gabriela Sabatini, Martina Hingis, Jennifer Capriati, Venus Williams, Justine Henin, and Serena Williams.

As one of the hottest tickets in professional sports, the Family Circle Cup is more than just a tennis tournament; it’s a festival that provides days of interaction and fun. During the week, fans are entertained with a variety of activities aimed at making their Daniel Island stay a memorable one. The action-packed nine days are filled with high-level tennis and a host of other activities created for all age groups from children to senior citizens.

The grand finale, “Game Set Rock,” will be a vibrant evening of music and tennis entertainment featuring John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Anna Kournikova and a fourth player, to be announced, participating in singles and mixed-doubles action, as a new ticketed session beginning at 7:00 pm on Saturday, April 17. The Blue Dogs, Charleston’s favorite country, bluegrass, and roots-rock sons, will entertain the crowd throughout the event, and will conclude the evening with a special performance in Family Circle Stadium.

The Family Circle Cup begins on April 10 and ends April 18, 2010. For a schedule of events and ticket information, please visit http://www.FamilyCircleCup.com/.
