The Kiawah Conservancy Shares Its Thanks for 2011 Support
Each year, the Kiawah Conservancy hosts its Painted Bunting Gala to show the organization’s appreciation for the continued support of donors. The event allows the organization an opportunity to publicly honor the top contributors who have helped further their mission of habitat preservation on Kiawah.

This year’s event will break from its traditional black-tie affair for a more casual drop-in at One Captain Maynard’s Island, a private 11-acre island on Kiawah. The event will celebrate Kiawah’s southern heritage with oysters on the half shell, fresh local seafood, and traditional southern fare, though “the point of the night,” said Donna Windham, Executive Director for the Kiawah Conservancy, “ is to thank the donors and let them know their contribution is crucial to the Island. The donors need to know their money made a difference.”
Kiawah Island Real Estate is the lead sponsor at the event and is proud to support the Painted Bunting. “We had 100% participation from our sales team with every sales executive making a financial pledge for this year’s event,” said Chris Drury, president of Kiawah Island Real Estate. This Painted Bunting sponsorship supports the overall mission of the Conservancy.

The Conservancy chose Captain Maynard’s Island because it embodies the natural essence of Kiawah. Thick maritime forest fills the island, which is encircled on each side by a saltwater river and creek. Guests will enjoy a breathtaking sunset over the Kiawah River from the home’s screened porch. And from the property’s two deepwater docks, the Conservancy will offer boat rides for guests. A naturalist will be on hand to answer any questions about Kiawah’s natural habitat and wildlife.
The Kiawah Conservancy receives support from many of the Island’s residents and friends but is always looking for more individuals interested in getting involved. To learn more about the Conservancy and its programs, visit www.KiawahConservancy.org.
