The Sustainability Institute presents “A Night For Our Future”
In recent years, Kiawah Island developers, builders, and owners have demonstrated a growing interest in eco-friendly building practices and energy efficiency. More and more homes on the Island are being constructed or updated to be energy efficient, sustainable, and have less impact on our environment. Two new neighborhoods in particular – Indigo Park and Cypress Point – take these ideals and use them in the planning, development, and implementation of their respective communities. Indigo Park is seeking to become the first LEED certified resort community in the U.S.

With these growing initiatives in mind, Kiawah Island Real Estate has partnered with The Sustainability Institute, a Charleston-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower South Carolinians to reduce their environmental footprint where we live and work. “The positive response and growing interest we continue to receive from the Charleston community is not only encouraging, but also inspiring for our organization to keep educating people about the need to be more energy efficient,” said Bryan Cordell, Executive Director of The Sustainability Institute.
Since development on Kiawah began, there has been a strong desire to maintain and protect the beautiful natural setting that sets this barrier island apart from others. The Sustainability Institute hopes to help educate Island residents on what they can do to further care for Kiawah.
At A Night For Our Future on Thursday, November 10, the Institute will host the premiere of a short film about the organization's decade-long impact the organization has had on individuals, businesses, organizations, and municipalities across the Lowcountry. “We hope that through an event like A Night For Our Future, we can help more people engage in our mission and most importantly become better stewards for the environment,” said Cordell.
Kiawah residents are invited to attend the event; taking place at The Hippodrome in downtown Charleston, Thursday, November 10 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The event will also feature live entertainment by Joel Hamilton & The Shrimp Family Collective, as well as food and drinks. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at www.SustainabilityInstituteSC.org. For more information or to get involved with the Sustainability Institute, click here or call (843) 529.3421.
